Scuba Equipment For Sale plus Training Ideas

February 29th, 2008

Hello all!

It’s been a quiet few months, but we need to get back on it ready for some diving over Easter!!

Firstly, an old member, Bob, contacted me regarding some equipment he has which he would like to sell:

- a bowstone weight harness with 10Kgs of shot in bags (as new)
- a Suunto dive computer (Solutions alpha) new battery plus spare (old)
- a Suunto wrist compass (as new)

If anyone is interested email exec@brunelscuba.co.uk and let us know and we will contact Bob.

Right, we have been pretty slack with training this year (as in there hasn’t been any!) and we have been thinking about the logistics of it.  How would you feel about being trained abroad?  On holiday?  In say, Malta?  We are currently putting together some information about a trainees holiday, we are estimating the cost to be approximately £400-450, for a weeks holiday in Malta, Flights, and Scuba Training.  Let us know what you think.

TRAINING! Wooooo!!

December 1st, 2007

We’re now ready to start training people, which has two parts; the pool and theory sessions and the open water dives.

The dates we’re offering are:

Pool & Theory Training -
19th-20th OR 26th-27th January

Open Water Dives -
9th-10th OR 16th-17th February

To complete your training you are required to successfully complete ONE pool and theory weekend and ONE open water weekend.  We will only be running one of each session on either of the dates suggested.  Majority rules, so please let us know which dates you can make.

If you are interested please contact us at exec@brunelscuba.co.uk before the end of this term. Or if you like we meet on tuesdays at 7:30 in LC008 in the lecture centre if you want to ask us some questions in person

For any given weekend, a £35 deposit is needed.

BRUNEL (nearly) ANNUAL SCAPA FLOW TRIP 2008

We have provisionally booked the entire boat - so far THREE spaces have been filled.  If you are interested in coming or would like some more information please email exec@brunelscuba.co.uk asap.

7th-12th September 2008

There is space for 12 people on the boat at a cost of £237.50 per person which includes 12 dives, accomodation (on the boat - 6 x twin berth cabins), 1 x 12L cylinder and weights per diver, air, and tea/coffee.  Extra dives are £100 each (£8.30 per person) and Nitrox is extra too.  We can feed ourselves or pay for half or full board, but we can decide that nearer the time…

The whole trip including travel and ferries etc will probably cost approximately £450-500.
We will require a non-refundable deposit of £100 by January 31st 2008 to secure your position.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE, take a look at these websites, maybe they can sway your opinion.  This really is a fantastic diving holiday, I recommened it to everyone who is qualified to go:

Brief Scapa info:

Scapa flow is the natural harbour in which the German Naval High Seas Fleet (74 warships) was held under British guard during the Armistice negotiations at the end of WWI.  Rear-Admiral von Reuter, the man in charge of the German Fleet, had detailed a plan to scuttle the entire fleet if he believed the hostilities were to recommence or the British were to try and seize the fleet.  With only a skeleton crew on board the ships, there was no way they would be able to fight back, and Britain would be able to seize the fleet easily.  With four day old information the Rear-Admiral believed that hostilities were going to recommence between Britain and Germany before the Armistice was complete and the Treaty of Peace signed and subsequently gave the order to scuttle.  The British managed to save three ships, but the rest sank to the bottom of the Flow.  In the many subsequent years a large proportion of the ships have been salvaged, however there are still about 9 of the German Warships along with a random assortment of other boats, ready to be dived!  This really is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy and take part in some of the best wreck-diving in the world, and it’s (pretty much) on our doorstep!

TRY DIVES!!

October 29th, 2007

There are currently SEVEN spaces for the Try Dives on 8th November which is the Thursday after next.  It costs a tenner for: travel to and from the pool, kit hire, use of the pool and a BSAC pack and certificate.
If you are interested in having a go email exec@brunelscuba.co.uk and we’ll get your name on the list. If you enjoy yourself and want to sign up to training after the event Sam (Secretary) will be there to sort that out for you…

The plan is meeting at the Lecture Centre at 7.30pm for a prompt 7.45pm start.  You will receive a briefing about BSAC, our club, SCUBA kit and what to expect in the pool.  From there we will travel in cars to Highgrove Swimming Pool in Ruislip where the group will be split into two.  The first four will go straight into the water one-to-one with an instructor and then half an hour later the next four will have their try dive.  We will be taking photos of you which we will email to you after the event as memorabilia.

We aim to be back on campus by 10.30pm.
